The condition for the success of the industrial enterprises is the focus on the customers, their individual requirements. The enterprises need to produce more various products, which means an increase in production variability while achieving high quality, reliability, speed of delivery, with low costs, which are achieved in conventional mass production. Production variability requires an increased number of changeovers which is a waste and increases production lead time. The aim is to reduce the number of changeovers or to shorten the time required for changeover. As current trends lead to the individualisation of production, the option is to reduce the time required for changeover. The presented paper deals with the elimination of waste in the changeover process in a selected industrial enterprise by applying the SMED method.
